An Inconvenient Truth

The scorching Sunday heat plus humidity made it idea to sit inside an air conditioned movie theater watching Al Gore talk about global warming; in addition to the fact that it was also a required viewing assignment.

I feel that the problem with Global Warming is that too few politicians understand the concept and are unable to present this issue to the public. Al Gore tackled this matter fluently in his book and new documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” He pointed out that science is clear; the warmer oceans are making the average hurricane stronger and magnifying its destructive power. I truly commend Al Gore for raising this issue and making it a cause for us to face. The public needs to be informed and raising this alarming message into mass media is huge stepping stone.

He did deliver this complicated message eloquently but I would have liked to see him give more solutions that the public can do to correct this problem.

I agree with you. The other that I can say is that not only do politicians not understand the concept, they may be shying away from the topics like this because they feel that they cannot do anything about it. I feel that politicians usually talk about either what they know (or their accomplishments, like: the benefits of the war) or issues are not mentioned until there are dire consequences.

I agree. I felt that the solutions that he presented at the end and were cute in their flying letters, but I wanted to know more. I wanted to feel that there was a group and real way that we can make demands. I felt that postcards should have been distributed to send to oil companies, manufactures, everyone!! I am personally trying to use less plastic and paper, but as a whole we need to figure out what we can do!

I'd have been better off in my cool house with my wife and a beer.

If I didn't wait till the last minute to watch this movie then I would have been inside with my boyfriend and probably consume some alcohol too. If I had a choice of what movie to see on Sunday, would I have chosen “An Inconvenient Truth?” Probably not. Although, I am grateful to Professor Daniels for making us watch it. The movie did utilize many great features of power point and also educate me about the many issues of global warming. Well just so you know Steffie, after the movie I would rewashed my plastic cup at work so I wouldn’t throw it out each time I got water… then my coworkers got me a mug.
